Planting my hops rhizome
BAH, I’m an hour-ish late for Saturday #blogjune but I’ll tell you bout my rhizome planting now anyway. This is the large pot we got yesterday. It’s self watering and 55L, though I think I only used 40L of potting mix. The rest was worm poo, and I didn’t fill the pot so there’d be room for both growing and adding more poo later.
Mixing worm poo with Bailey’s premium potting mix with absorption and drainage features.
Shoebox with rhizome and coir.
Mah hop mah hop…
…check it out!
Planted vertically, had to guess which side was up. Still not sure if right. Gave it a 10cm mound (this is where you bury it under a soil mountain instead of levelling the soil) with highest bud tip 25mm from mound surface.
My lovely mound. I catproofed this by putting plastic bottles on top. Clear plastic let’s light through, gives neighbour cats no convenient squat space for pees and poos.
