First week, new work
I started work last Monday. Of course, I took the wrong bus and ended up doing a lot of walking in unremarkable shoes. Then did more walking when we toured the campus grounds. But eee, it was exciting. :))) I tried the famous Asian food van people have been telling me about. Pictured above is a serve of chicken curry and rice with veg.
There are many places to eat. I started during a non-teaching week, so half those places were shut. And it’s not like around my old workplace, but I’m content for now. Still looking around for gluten-free options. In the meantime, I’ve been bringing my own gluten-free wraps and making tostadas.
Oh, by the way, there’s a Chinese garden. The waterfall is so loud, you can’t hear anything outside. :)))
I got my first project too, and am excited to see how I weigh up against an environment I’m not familiar with. I don’t know if this is normal or not, but I have trouble settling into a new thing – workplace, hobby, activity – until I’ve accomplished something. What’s definitely normal is this fear I’m going to do a crap job and be found out to be a fraud. Knowing it’s a thing helps to not be overwhelmed by it. We can be rational together.
Friday, I got sick. Pretty sure it was tonsillitis. Spent the whole weekend feeling rubbish and missing out on the fun stuff I wanted to do. But it’s Tuesday now and all my symptoms have miraculously disappeared. No doctors, no antibiotics, I’m just… mysteriously all right. I think. I hope.
I’m going to have a hot cup of tea now and pray it’s not just the calm before a microbial storm.
