I made cheese!

Cheese cheese cheese! It’s easy cheesy. I followed the Make Cheese at Home on wikihow, took about 15 minutes all up, including heating up the milk.

I boiled the milk with Flora sunflower spread, a bit of black pepper and the tiniest bit of spring onion. It really was the tiniest bit yet now all I can taste is onion. My hands smell like onion, my mouth feels like onion. Onion.

Must remember to use more salt after straining. These curds come out pretty bland (save for the onion). I thought I added a lot of salt, but the flavour was still quite mild. We probably take for granted how much salt goes into storebought stuff. Even cottage cheese (which this is meant to be a bit like) is fuller in taste, but I read somewhere that extra cream gets added to achieve that effect.

I expected the kitchen to stink after all this, but it was fine. Any mess was well contained, couldn’t smell the vinegar at all, the whey went straight down the sink, the cheese solids are quite firm and don’t mush or smear into the cloth. All in all, an easy experience. :)
